The annual Semper Fi End of Summer Shoot Out was held August 28 & 29, 2004. It looked to me like well over 100 people attended.
Karl Campbell is the owner of Semper Fi Paintball and the main organizer of the event. He says that staging an event like this takes a ton of planning and work. The event started Saturday morning. He worked from 8 am Friday morning until 2 am Saturday morning to get everything ready.
This is the eleventh year of the event. The main objective of the game is to capture the giant stuffed Teddy bear, (that’s right teddy bear) and maintain possession. The team that maintains possession the longest wins.
Future Plans
Karlsaid that as he adds props to the field he wants to add elements to the scenario to make it more interesting. (Judging from his forum, people already think this annual event is a ton of fun) The ultimate aim is to make this scenario game very similar to the game of "Risk".
He eventually plans to have countries, kings, presidents, armies and all the appropriate ranks to go with them.
Ranks
The first rank Karl created was general. He gave the team general an occasional mission to accomplish. The general issued the appropriate orders to carry out the mission. The team was awarded a certain number of points for successfully completing the mission. This is the first year he has altered the game by giving missions to accomplish. This is the first year he has had the rank of general. He has not created other ranks yet.
Missions
I witnessed one of the teams carrying out the following mission. They were assigned the task of capturing the other team’s ammunition dump. This dump consisted of old scuba bottles. (Karl hopes to add bomb fins to them in time for next year’s game.)
Over the years Karl has added some cool props to his field. There is an old helicopter body. There are also mini castles with moats. He has used a lot of ingenuity and imagination.
As he adds props to the field, he plans to make the annual scenario game more and more like Risk. He eventually plans to have Countries, presidents, dictators, etc.
Each year, he wants to make the scenario more like the game "Risk".
Cops911.com was also there. They manufacture custom nylon goods. They make vests, bags, barrel covers and more. They sell tactical helmets, and shoes.
They also like to play at the events they work. They showed me a paintball grenade launcher, the Scepter 400 that uses disposable co2 cartridges. It attaches to the bottom of a paintball marker barrel. I tried to photograph it in action. It was great fun to watch, but the photos were not very good. We’ll try to get video some day.
They offer tactical vest rental. You can rent them online or in person if you attend an event they are at. You can apply the rental fee to the vest you rented or a custom vest if you like. If you rent online, they even send a prepaid return container with the vest.
They make arm bands with your name or business name imprinted. I saw several players with their nickname or character name imprinted. These might work well for fields to delineate teams.
They offer a life time warranty on all the products they make.
Other Products
They told me that they will make anything according to your design. They showed me a custom padded case for one of their cell phones. I was told that it is a dearly beloved cover because the phone is dropped often. This is the only way the phone could survive.
They will place your logo on anything they make as well as gloves, which they do not make.
They will place your logo on arm bands, and barrel covers. This should be of interest to field and store owners.
Scenario Game Support
They provide support for scenario games. Karl (Semper Fi's Owner) said he liked having them because they sold products that complemented the event without competing with products he sells.
Customer Service
These people seem to take customer service very seriously. That seems apparent in things like their tactical vest rental practices. It was also demonstrated by Greg.
Greg, one of their customers, called them and ordered 2 vests around 8 pm Thursday. It was delivered to him Friday at around noon. I don’t know that they want to guarantee that kind of turnaround, but it seems to show a strong desire to please a customer when possible. Planning ahead, when possible, tends to make life less frustrating for everyone.

If Karl is able to develop the event according to his plans, it should be a ton of fun.
Make plans to attend this year. We plan to provide info when it is available.
